Ashtanga Primary Series with Matt

Saturday  23 September – Saturday 28 October 12:00 – 14:00 (6 classes)

Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional yogic practice first developed in Mysore, India by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The Ashtanga practice is a sequence of postures completed in a specific order, incorporating:

  • vinyasa (breath synchronised movement)
  • ujjayi pranayama (victorious breathing technique)
  • the bandhas (inner energy locks)
  • the dristis (gaze points.)
Through the practice, the mind focuses on these elements and the sequence becomes a moving meditation. This 6 week block of classes with Matt is a perfect introduction to the Ashtanga practice and provides an ideal foundation for developing a personal practice.
A full 90 minute guided primary series will be practiced to develop your strength, coordination and focus. Followed by a blissful (and necessary!) Savasana and finishing with an alignment clinique delving into the fundamentals of one specific asana each week.

This class is suitable for all and Matt offers variations to allow everyone to enjoy and benefits from the practice.

  • introduction to Ashtanga Primary Series
  • focus on alignment & technique
  • suitable for beginners and those wishing to build their own practice

“Anyone can practice. Young man can practice. Old man can practice. Very old man can practice. Man who is sick, he can practice. Man who doesn’t have strength can practice. Except lazy people; lazy people can’t practice ashtanga yoga.” Sri.K. Pattabhi Jois

Kids Yoga (ages 4 – 7) Term

Saturday  23 September – Saturday 28 October 12:00 – 14:00 (5 classes)

Giving children the space and freedom to explore their own movement, dance to music, make-up poses, create shapes with their bodies, use stories and song, roll around and have lots of fun!
We explore our creativity and inner wisdom as we get to know ourselves and each other. We learn to move and to pause with awareness and intention. Yoga teaches children to use breath to create space between their thoughts and their reactions.

Peace, respect, gratitude & acceptance will be presented at an age appropriate level through imaginative adventures.

Introduced at a young age, this powerful practice has the potential to serve children throughout their lives as they learn, grow, and transform into physically and mentally strong, flexible, and balanced adults.

Sunshine Yoga offers a wonderful cafe. Parents are invited to chill in a peaceful environment while the children practice their flow.
