Namaste. We feel so unbelievably grateful for the beautiful spaces and the amazing teachers we have here at Sunshine Yoga. To practice. To relax. To be happy….

The story of how we got here feels like a miracle!

It started as a day-dream, a typical 20-something unsatisfied office worker with a regular yoga practice since her teens. Day after day staring out an office window, Stephanie (Sunshine Yogini) wondered if this was it….

In November 2014 she decided to go on a mission for the soul (number 1). She attended an intensive Ashtanga and Vinyasa teacher training in India with Sampoorna Yoga. Upon her return, she immediately started teaching at the “The REC” in Balgreen as Edinburgh Sunshine Yoga. With each yoga class, her love for the practice and the students increased. The more she let go of a world which didn’t serve her, the more her universe started to align. It was time for a dedicated space and soul mission number 2.

Stephanie gathered incredibly talented yoga teachers from a wide variety of styles to bring Sunshine on Gorgie. Sunshine Yoga Studio was born August 2016.

Having supported Stephanie’s Yoga journey to the full, and helping to create Sunshine Yoga,  Matt’s teacher transition realised itself in January 2017, following in Stephanie’s footsteps he completed his teacher training also at Sampoorna Yoga.

Within 6 months of Sunshine Yoga opening its doors to Gorgie, Matt and Stephanie both threw themselves into daily teaching and continue to strive to offer a perfect haven for health, happiness and well-being.

In May 2018 Stephanie and Matt were blessed to bring baby Jasmina River into the world and it was a wonderful moment with so much love and support from the yoga community at Sunshine.

When pregnant with baby Jasmina, Matt and Stephanie became more and more aware of the crazy amount of packaging in the recycling bin, and wanted to do some- thing about it. The result was to set up a Social Enterprise with a mission to create a Plastic Free Edinburgh.

Thanks to a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign that raised £22,000, The Eco Larder on Morrison Street was born in November 2018, located at 200 Morrison Street by Haymarket.

When the shop opened, renovation on the huge back space of the shop began to create a new home for Sunshine Yoga within The Eco Larder. The community at Sunshine Yoga Gorgie created all the positive energy to enable The Eco Larder and so it made sense for the two businesses to be housed under one roof.  In July 2019 Sunshine Yoga opened its doors at a new home on 200 Morrison Street.

All together, we are 12 beautiful yogis (and Murphy the Dog!), each with our own unique style. Each teacher at Sunshine Yoga brings energy and love to all their classes. The intention is for students to leave feeling happy and relaxed. For everyone to benefit from calmness and bliss.

A day filled with fellow yogis and love is like no other, we are grateful to share this with you all…
